Maureen Nyaboke, who appeared before Justice Mary Kasango virtually from the Kiamumbi police station, denied killing Andy Muiruri on February 23, 2022.

Nyaboke, 23, is accused of beating Muiruri in the head with a blunt object and killing him. On February 24, he died as a result of his injuries.

Nyaboke will be held in custody at Lang'ata Women's Prison until her bail application is heard on March 30.

After Nyaboke's arrest in Mwihoko, a Kiambu court gave the prosecution 10 days to keep her.

Monica Wangui, the boy's mother, allegedly left him in her care on February 23 and went to work, only to return home later that evening to find the boy with injuries to his head, chin, and mouth.

According to an affidavit given by Carolyne Ng'eno, an investigating officer at Kiamumbi Police Station, the accused, who began working on February 22, 2022, said the child was injured after a fall.

The baby was taken to Kahawa West Hospital and treated before being released. When his health began to deteriorate, he was referred to Kenyatta University Referral Hospital, where he died shortly after arriving.

A post mortem conducted on March 1 found that the youngster died as a consequence of internal head injuries inflicted by a blunt object, according to the police.

Andy Muiruri was buried on March 3 in Kiambururu hamlet, Githunguri constituency, at his grandparents' home.
