Magoha Reveals Guidelines For Form One Placement

On Wednesday, March 30, while speaking at the Surgical Society of Kenya, the Education Cabinet Secretary, Prof. George Magoha, affirmed that integrity will be observed in the form one placement.

He added that the selection criteria will acknowledge affirmative action and geographical distribution.

“Affirmative action will take into account the geographical distribution of this country. Children from the northern region must be represented in national schools. To do that, God and the government have given us the powers to be fair,” said the CS.

While selecting secondary schools to join, students were allowed to pick four national schools, three extra county schools, two county schools, and two more at the sub-county level, giving them eleven schools.

The placement process has already begun, and learners who sat for the 2021 KCPE examination will be placed in schools nationwide.

Magoha said the selection criteria will not discriminate against high-achieving students, especially those from slums and desert and semi-arid areas.

“We will ensure that all children are given equal, fair, and just treatment, including children in the slums and far-flung arid and semi-arid areas where we have always had affirmative action,” said Magoha.

Around 11,857 candidates scored 400 marks and above, while 1,170 scored below 100 marks.

Magoha said that all the 1.2 million students who sat for the KCPE examination will be assigned to secondary schools, possibly, those they selected, regardless of their scores.

“We will place you where you belong in terms of your selection. There will be no interference at all,” he added.

In the next two weeks, students will know the secondary school they have been placed in. Meanwhile, the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) national examinations will be finalized tomorrow, April 1.
