Kenya`s Angela Okutoyi Wins 2nd Round Girls Singles In Australian Open

Angela Okutoyi, 18 years, has made history by being the first African woman to win a match at the Australian Open, which is being held at Melbourne Park in Australia.

She created history when she became the first Kenyan woman to win a Grand Slam Juniors match on Sunday,  further defeating Italian Federica Urgesi 6-4, 6-7(5), 6-3 in the first round.

In the second round of the competition, she defeated Zara Larke of the United Kingdom 7-6(7),5-7, 6-1.

 Okutoyi`s win comes the first time in 16 years where a Kenyan is featuring at the Australian Open Juniors.

She is the Second girl to play a Junior Grand Slam after Susan Wakhungu who was featured at Wimbledon in 1978.

Tennis legend Billie Jean King congratulated her for her exemplary performance at the Australian Open.

“History was made at the Australian Open. Cheers to Meshkatolzahra Safi from Iran and Angela Okutoyi from Kenya on both becoming the first girls from their respective countries to win a Grand Slam juniors match!.

 In addition, Kenya`s sports journalist Carol Radull congratulated Angella stating that she is a true hero.

"Keep winning girl, you are a true hero". She tweeted.
