Kenya Pipeline Company Manages To Contain The Kisumu Oil Leakage

The Provincial Administration, together with Police OCPD and other arms of the government, worked with KPC enabled to contain the spillage.

The pipeline burst at the Kanyamedha area is believed to have occurred at around midnight. Still, the cause of the burst has not yet been established, as further investigations are being made.

The area residents were restrained from siphoning the oil from the scene, but some came equipped with containers, defied the orders, and collected the oil.

KPC's director advised the residents to stay away from the scene to enable the team to work out the issues and ensure their safety.

"We urge the residents who are near the leak site to immediately keep off the area to enable KPC undertake the repairs to minimize danger," stated Macharia Irungu, KPC's managing director.

The leakage led to the closure of the Kondele-Airport bypass before the KPC rectified it.

No casualties were reported from the incident, and it has not affected the availability of the product in the region since there is enough stock in the depot.

Irungu further said they would provide citizens with regular updates concerning the incident.
