Terry Ramadhani Kiunge has been named the new Chief Executive Officer(CEO) of the Kenya Medical Supplies Authority (KEMSA).

Terry Kiunge succeeds John Kabuchi, who was appointed in an acting capacity on December 28, 2021 following the departure of Edward Njoroge.

Njoroge had also taken over after Jonah Manjari and other senior directors at the agency were suspended to enable for investigations into allegations of corruption in Covid-19 procurements.

The new appointment comes at a time when the agency is restructuring its operations following the Covid-19 kits scandal.

The new KEMSA CEO’s appointment takes effect from today. Kiunge will be in charge of leading the State agency in its efforts to implement changes that will ensure ethical and cost-effective operations in the local public health sector.

In a statement to newsrooms, the authority said Kiunge was the best candidate following a recruitment procedure conducted by the board in collaboration with executive selection experts from Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology Consulting Services (JKUATES).

“Several applicants expressed an interest in serving as the KEMSA CEO during the envisaged organizational transformation phase that is now underway. At the evaluation stage, Kiunge emerged as the best candidate,” noted KEMSA.

“In Ms. Kiunge, the KEMSA Board is confident that the organizational transformation agenda will be sustained and professionally executed.”

The recruitment and evaluation process has been going on since March 2022

Kiunge was the HR and Global Change Director at Aga Khan University prior to her appointment.

She was previously a senior director at the President's Delivery Unit (PDU), where she was responsible for monitoring and reviewing assistance for various national government health pillar flagship initiatives, including Universal Health Coverage.

Kiunge has a Master’s in Business Administration (MBA) from the University of Liverpool, a Bachelor of Education from Kenyatta University, and a Harvard Kennedy School Adaptive Leadership Certification.
