The Ministry announced the auction of the Buffalo Aircraft specified in four tenders in a notice published in local dailies on Tuesday, March 29.

The 211 and 212 are the tail numbers on one of them. The auction was set for Tuesday, May 3rd, with public viewing beginning on Monday, April 11th.

The aircraft/equipment/spares can be viewed from April 11, 2022, during working days only (Monday to Friday) except on public holidays at Moi Air Base (Eastleigh) starting from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. M/S Phillips International Auctioneers will auction the planes at Moi Air Base in Eastleigh from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. on the aforementioned days.

Prior to reaching the auction site, bidders were required to acquire the catalogue.

"On viewing days, a catalogue offering full details of objects to be sold may be obtained from the Moi Air Base (East Leigh) for a non-refundable cost of Ksh1 000 each set," said part of the announcement.

How to bid

Interested bidders must deposit Ksh200, 000 for the aircraft and Ksh50, 000 for the engines or spares as a refundable bid number deposit.

Before the end of the viewing period, the monies must be presented to the Ministry of Defense.

"On the day of the auction, the receipt will be submitted at the entry gate of the sale yard (Moi Air Base) to receive a bidding number. Without a bidding number, bidders will not be able to participate in the auction" the statement was added.

Following the bidding process, winning bidders will pay a 10% deposit when the hammer falls. The remaining balance should be paid within the next 21 days.

Successful bidders must recover the property within 30 days or face a charge of 1% of the bid per day in storage fees at the facility.

"Any military markings must be removed and painted with a different color before the aircraft may be authorized to operate," the Ministry of Defense instructed.
