Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS) has opened its Schools portal for candidates’ university applications under government funding.

Dr. Mercy Wahome, CEO of KUCCPS, advised students to apply so they can receive career advice from their teachers who have received KUCCPS training on the procedure.

“This is the best time for the students to interact with KUCCPS officers and seek guidance as they choose courses,” said Wahome.

KUCCPS has provided career guidance training to 4,505 career teachers working in 45 counties and sensitized 43,079 secondary school students from 92 schools in 29 counties since July 2022.

According to a letter from KUCCPS to all secondary school principals, the applications opened on September 19, 2022, and will close on November 30, 2022.

Form four pupils have started choosing the courses they would want to take in universities and colleges as they join next year. For them to apply, they must pay a Ksh. 500 application fee through their school.

Principals are needed to gather and compile the candidates' email and phone contact details and submit them with the applications.

“All secondary schools shall, on behalf of their candidates collect, collate and submit through the School Portal, the applications for placement to Universities and Colleges following the procedure given on the website,” said Wahome.

Wahome said that KUCCPS placement standards are based on merit and affirmative action thus candidates will only be considered if they apply through the KUCCPS portal.

“In conformity with the provisions of the Constitution of Kenya 2010, KUCCPS applies affirmative action criteria based on gender, marginalized, and disability criteria. Only those candidates who apply through the KUCCPS portal will be considered for government sponsorship,” Wahome said.

Furthermore, KUCCPS is currently running career counseling programs in secondary schools all around the nation. The exercise is to make it possible for KUCCPS to provide placement information to the students in the future.

Dr. Wahome also said that candidates can stop by the KUCCPS service desks in the Huduma Centers for career advice and other crucial placement information.
