Department Summary

The Programs Department plays a critical role in achieving CMMB’s strategy around improving the lives of women and children, by leading the provision of high-quality programs focused on children’s and mothers’ health, particularly in the development and implementation of our CHAMPS model. This team is also responsible for generating revenue from and partnering effectively with government(s), major foundations, and other major donors, and will help to position and enhance CMMB’s technical capacity and reputation in the field of global healthcare.

CMMB has been working in Kenya for almost 15 years. CMMB works to ensure that the most vulnerable populations, especially mothers and children, have access to quality services in health care, health promotion, and illness prevention.

Overview

You are a nurse with a post-basic Diploma in oncology nursing. You have further acquired oncology nursing competencies to work at both operational and management levels in oncology nursing.

Responsibilities

  • Participates in cancer prevention and early detection activities.
  • Perform comprehensive systemic health assessment on a patient diagnosed with cancer, recognize deviations, and intervene appropriately.
  • Order, perform and interpret selected laboratory and diagnostic findings to make sound clinical decisions/judgments inpatient care according to relevant protocols and guidelines.
  •  Administer chemotherapy.
  • Provide care for patients on radioactive iodine therapy.
  • Participates in the tumor boards and other educative as well as lessons sharing events.
  • Perform basic emergency care to oncology patients in line with stipulated guidelines.
  • Prescribe selected drugs and administer any other prescribed medication to clients /patients as per the guidelines.
  • Interpret and utilizes lab results to include bone chemistry, LFTS, FHG, UEC, radiological and histopathological results of policies and guidelines that promote access to oncology care services.
  • Participate in and utilize research findings to improve care in the oncology unit.
  • Provide mentorship to oncology specialists and other health professionals.

Qualifications and Experiences

  • Diploma in any of the following disciplines: Kenya Registered Community Health Nursing, Kenya Registered Nursing, Kenya Registered Midwifery, Kenya Registered Nursing/Midwifery, or Kenya Registered Oncology Nursing from a recognized institution,
  • Registration Certificate issued by the Nursing Council of Kenya.
  • Valid practicing license from the Nursing Council of Kenya.
  • At least 1-year of hands-on experience in oncology nursing in a busy institution with community health interphase and collaboration with MoH.
  • You have excellent coordination and networking skills including liaison with stakeholders
  • Your analytical and writing skills are very good.
  • You have experience working in an NGO.
  • You have experience working with Microsoft Word, Excel and have data analysis software skills
  • You’re a timely and effective communicator with superior presentation skills and proven skills building.
  • You are comfortable working for a faith-based organization.
