JOBS: How to Dress in a Work Environment

Did you know that your dress code at work is very important? Your dress code has an impact on your image and how others interact with you on a daily basis.

JOBS: How to Dress in a Work Environment

Dressing well is one of the key things that an individual should be cautious about. Have you ever noticed that on the days that you feel you have dressed well, you get much respect in the places that you go to? You also noticed that you are not treated like a regular person because of your looks.

Dressing well does not mean that you have to dress in expensive clothes, you can also go for the imported clothes 'mitumba'. Being able to select good clothes and style them in a good manner is something that you need to practice a lot.

In doing this, you can source your styles from various sites and media such as Pinterest, Instagram, and Facebook among others. You can also install some apps on your phone to help you in matching your outfits.

As an employee in an organization, you should ensure that you dress to your best every day. You should also put in mind the days of the week and how to dress each day.

To be on the safer side and to avoid confusion, you can plan your entire week's dress code before the week begins. This not only helps you to be organized but also saves on time.

What are the types of dress codes in a workplace?

Generally, there are several types of dress codes that you need to consider in a work environment.

1. Business formal

This is the highest level of professional dress attire, which includes tailored suits and ties for men and a pantsuit or skirt suit with conservative accessories and shoes for women.

A dark pants suit, a dark suit, and tie, a black suit with a light button-down shirt, a skirt suit, or a suit dress are all examples of business formal attire. A long evening gown may be appropriate in some cases. Shoe options include formal flats, heels, oxfords, or loafers. Accessorize your outfit with jewelry, belts, a tie clip, or small cuff links.

2. Business professional

Colors and patterns are more flexible for business professionals. Men typically wear suits and ties with more patterns and colors, while women typically wear a suit or skirt, top, and jacket paired with more noticeable jewelry, such as chunky watches or statement pieces.

3. Business Casual

If your employee handbook states that you can dress business casual, you are not required to wear a suit, pumps, and stockings every day. However, regardless of how casual the dress code is, you should maintain a certain level of professionalism.

Men typically dress in button-up shirts, while women can dress in skirts, slacks, or khakis with a cardigan or jacket. Employees are given more leeway when it comes to jewelry and other accessories.

4. Casual code

The most difficult part may be ensuring that you maintain a professional demeanor.

Clothes should still be pressed, neat, and appropriate for the job. For men, casual pants and slacks will be worn with collared polos or crew-neck sweaters.

Women are free to wear well-fitting tops and blouses, slacks, or skirts. With a casual dress code, fun patterns and colors are acceptable.

Casual outfits are also recommended for Fridays because they set the tone for the upcoming weekend.

Regardless of how casual your workplace attire is, you don't want to show up for work looking rushed. Spend some time each morning getting ready. People's perceptions of you may change if you wear wrinkled or dirty clothes.
