IG Mutyambai Orders Hunt For Youth Who Stoned Raila’s Chopper In Uasin Gishu

Inspector General of Police Hillary Mutyambai has urged law enforcement agencies in the Rift Valley region to act swiftly and arrests youths who stoned ODM leader Raila Odinga’s helicopter and vehicles on Friday.

In a statement to newsrooms, Mutyambai urged the Rift valley regional police commenderr to act fast and take decisive action against youths alleged to cause violence at the ODM party leader’s event in the Rift valley.

The Inspector General of Police has issued firm instructions to the Rift Valley Regional Police Commander to urgently take decisive action against the perpetrators of today’s violence, including all those who will be implicated for planning and organizing the violence,” read part if the statement.

The National Police service went on to condemn the incident which leaders allied to ODM leader said that it was politically instigated.

The National Police Service condemns the ugly criminal incident and appeals for tolerance and respect for competitors in this season of politics as we approach elections. Acts of violence targeting opponents shall not be tolerated,” the National Police service said.

On Friday, the ODM leader Raila Odinga met two incidences that interrupted his two-day campaigns in the rift valley region.

The first incident is said to have occurred when Odinga and his allies went to pay their respects to the family of the late Jackson Kibor in Kabenes, Uasin Gishu County.

The second incident occurred at the neighboring Elgeyo Marakwet region where a rowdy youth attacked his motorcade in Iten Elgeyo Marakwet county.

In a statement the ODM leader registered his disappointment saying that the incident was aimed to divide the country into political zones.

"The threat came in the form of youth; mobilized armed and paid to cause mayhem and disorder, destroy property and even away lives in a bid t create political zones.” Read part of Odinga’s statement.
