“I Offer Different Services Apart from Tailoring to Survive,” says Nairobi Business Woman

Irene Akinyi, a business Woman based in Roasters Nairobi offers several services such as repairing cloths, sewing laptop bags, sewing suits, selling both men's and women`s perfumes to survive.

“I Offer Different Services Apart from Tailoring to Survive,” says Nairobi Business Woman

Speaking on Wednesday 1st September with Bright Kenya News, Irene stated that she has been in the Tailoring business for 20 years.

“I have been in this business for 20 years now and in different stations. I went for training immediately after completing my form 4 studies”.

Irene also added that during her training she wasn’t doing it for passion but to gain skills.

“At the time I began training I didn't know that this would become my source of income”

The famous businesswoman added that her two children and two grandchildren have been a motivating factor in her life. She works hard to ensure that they have all the basic needs required such as education.

Asked about how covid 19 affected her business. Akinyi answered.

“Covid never affected me and my business was never shuttered down because of the services that I offer like repairing, sewing laptop bags which very few people do.

She also added that another thing that as a business person one should do is that you need to have savings no matter little they are. These will help you to survive during rainy days”.

Asked about the methods she uses to advertise her business. “My business advertises itself and also through client referral due to the good work I do because I am not on social media platforms”.

She also added that she plays a good role as a mother to the lives of her children through training them about the work she does especially during holidays.

However, unlike any other business, the mother of two at times encounters challenges especially in the competitive market where stalls within the business areas offer the same services and that reduces her daily income.

“Sometimes it's tough especially when your neighbor in the next stall does sewing too so If I normally have 20 customers in a day then I will only serve 15 clients on that day”.

Her last motivating words to her fellow businessmen and women as they should learn to take risks in business but most importantly, they learn to save for a better tomorrow.
