How to Bake Delicious Apple Pie Cinnamon Rolls

Ingredients

3 1/2 cups all-purpose or plain flour

1 cup of warm, full-fat/skim milk

2-1/2 teaspoons yeast (instant or rapid-rise yeast)

1/3 cup granulated sugar

1/3 cup melted butter

1 large egg lightly whisked

1/4 teaspoon salt

Cooking oil

Filling:

3/4 cup loosely packed brown sugar

2 tablespoons butter melted

1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

600 g apple pie filling

To make your own apple pie filling:

5 apples, peeled, cored and diced

1/3 cup white sugar

2 tablespoons butter

2 teaspoons ground cinnamon

1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract (optional)

Frosting:

60 grams of cream cheese, at room temperature

2 tablespoons butter

1 tablespoon milk

1/2 teaspoon pure vanilla extract

1 cup powdered sugar

Procedure

Heat oven to 200°F | 100°C.

Combine the warm milk together with the yeast, 2 tablespoons of sugar, and melted butter in a large bowl. Allow standing for 10 minutes until frothy.

Add the whisked egg to the milk mixture add the flour, the remaining sugar, and salt, and mix until a sticky and soft dough forms.

Lightly dust a bench top with some flour, place the dough onto the floured surface then knead.

Knead until smooth and elastic, occasionally rolling into the flour on your work surface to keep the dough from sticking to your fingers.

Put a little cooking oil in a sizable bowl, add the dough, and swirl the bowl once to coat the dough with oil. Allow it to rise for 30 minutes while covered with a moist cloth.

Transfer the bowl of dough to the warm oven after turning the oven off. Give yourself 30 minutes to rise. Gently press two fingers into the dough to see if it's ready. The dough has not risen sufficiently if there is still an indentation.

Punch the dough down; cover and let rest for an additional 30 minutes or until doubled in size.

Dice the apples for apple pie filling or create your own filling from scratch while the dough is resting.

Heat a large pot over medium heat, and add the apples, sugar, butter, cinnamon, and vanilla.

Stir until butter is melted and apples are fully covered in all of the ingredients. Cover then reduce heat and allow to simmer gently, until apples are softened.

Allow to cool slightly before using.

Roll out the dough into a rectangle on a lightly dusted board.

Brush the melted butter over the dough and sprinkle evenly with brown sugar and cinnamon. Gently rub the cinnamon mixture into the butter.

Sprinkle the cinnamon with the apple pie filling equally, wrap up the dough firmly like a jelly roll starting at one long edge, and gently squeeze the seam to close. Slice the dough into equal pieces

Put the sliced rolls in a lightly greased baking dish. Cover with the damp towel and allow to rise for a further until doubled in size.

Heat the oven to 175°C | 350°F while the dough is rising.

Uncover rolls; bake for 35-40 minutes, or until lightly golden. Cool slightly before frosting.
