Govt Razes Down Contraband Sugar worth 4M
John Elungata led a Government multi-agency team on Saturday, June 5th in the destruction of Contraband Sugar worth 4m.
According to Mr. John Elungata the 4M bags of sugar that were being destroyed on Saturday were parts of the bags that remained in the exercise that took place earlier January 2021.
He further stated that the sugars didn't meet the normal parameters set by the government of Kenya and were also toxic for human consumptions.
In addition, the sugars were obtained from shops and supermarkets.
However, this exercise was also condemned by a section of Kenyans on social media since the burning exercise was being carried out on world environmental day.
We are on the #WorldEnvironmentDay and we here polluting our environment. Where did we go wrong? Aren't there alternatives of destroying the sugar rather than burning?
