Four Warders Arrested For Selling Fake Recruitment Letters

The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has arrested four prison officers for allegedly selling fake recruitment letters to Kenyans.

Four Warders Arrested For Selling Fake Recruitment Letters

Following the recently concluded nationwide police recruitment, some police officers saw the opportunity to con millions of shillings from unsuspecting citizens.

"An operation to hunt down the rogue warders operating in two vehicles was launched immediately, leading to the arrest of the four at CIATA City mall in Ridgeways, Kiambu County, where they were hawking the documents," DCI said.

Sergeant Violet Gachomo, Corporals Beatrice Wambui Kamau, Florence Wanjiku Ndung'u, and Ben Mburu have been arrested for selling fake recruitment letters after being reported to the police station by Kemunto and Ounde.

The two had contributed a total of 2 million to help them secure a spot for their relatives in the police services but realized the documents were fake prompting them to report the matter.

The police are looking for Jefferson Kivuva who is believed to be the intellect behind the whole operation.

The four who have been arrested are to face trial on Monday.

According to investigations, recruitment staff pocketed close to Sh500 million during the exercise, which took place across the country on March 24.

In the last week, at least ten persons, including police and Kenya Prisons Service employees, have been arrested for scamming job seekers out of Sh5 million.

Despite Inspector General of Police Hillary Mutyambai's caution to recruits not to indulge in corruption, the incidents are common. Mutyambai had also cautioned that any officer found guilty of misconduct during the recruitment process would face disciplinary action.

Various people who had joined the police training colleges with fake documents are being identified and arrested as the police ask people to report any such incidents to curb the numerous cases of defrauding and bribery.
