Today marks the third and last day of public viewing of the late retired President Mwai Kibaki's body which began on Monday.

President Uhuru Kenyatta and First Lady Margaret Kenyatta led the nation in paying tribute to late Retired President Mwai Kibaki on Monday, followed by Deputy President William Ruto and other dignitaries.

On Friday, April 29th, 2022, a state funeral with full military honors and etiquette will be held at Nyayo Stadium for the late President Mwai Kibaki. The day has been declared a national holiday.

As is customary for previous state leaders, the former President's body has been lying-in-state at parliament premises for the past three days.

The late Kibaki's body would then be flown to his home in Othaya, Nyeri County, where he will be laid to rest on Saturday, April 30, 2022.

President Uhuru Kenyatta confirmed the death of Kenya's third president, President Mwai Kibaki, on Friday afternoon, April 22, 2022, in State House Nairobi.

The president then declared a period of national mourning from Friday to sunset on the day of his interment during the announcement.
