EPRA Searches for a New Director General

The Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority, EPRA, has declared the position of a Director General vacant following the resignation of Pavel Oimeke in February 16, 2021 due to corruption allegations

The Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority, EPRA, has declared the position of a Director General vacant following the resignation of Pavel Oimeke in February 16, 2021 due to corruption allegations. 

Oimeke was accused of demanding a sum of SH200 000 bribe to reopen a petrol station in Oyugis, charges which he denied.

Following his quitting, Daniel Kiptoo was appointed by the EPRA Board as the director in an acting capacity.

With the continuous rise in fuel prices globally, the incoming Director General will be required to find suitable ways of dealing with pressure as fuel price curve continue to shoot.

The chosen candidate will also be required to handle citizens' uproar to have a lid on fuel pricing.

The board is looking for a qualified graduate who will be able to oversee the general production and marketing of petroleum and it’s products.

“The successful candidate shall oversee the regulation of petroleum sector utilities involved in importation, refining, exportation, transportation, storage and sale of petroleum and petroleum products,” read a newspaper in part.

The contested hot EPRA seat is a contract of three years renewable once for a similar period of time subject to satisfactory performance.

“The appointment will be for a contractual period of three years renewable once for a similar period of time subject to satisfactory performance,” read the notice.

Oimeke took over from Joseph Ng’ang’a in 2017, after the latter retired at the age of 60.

He was serving his second term when he quit.
