DCI Recovers Vandalized KPLC Equipment In Juja

"As detectives intensify the war against vandalism of critical national installations that has recently been on the increase, three suspects were yesterday arrested and vandalised equipment worth millions recovered," read a Twitter post by the DCI.

According to the DCI, the intelligence-driven operation saw the DCI arrest two suspects, Johanna Thuku and Stephen Githitu, who were arraigned at a Thika law court. Hours after the arrest of the two, another suspect, Patrick King’ori, was arrested as he tried to escape.

"Following the raid, Johana Thuku and Stephen Githitu were arrested and arraigned at a Thika court for the offence of vandalism." read part of the statement.

Further, the DCI stated that the Kenya power equipment were worth millions of money and were discovered at a scrap metal yard in Juja, Matangi area. The equipment consisted of rolls of aluminium conductors and several vandalised KPLC transformers.

This comes months after the president burned scrap metals because of vandalism in the sector. The ban by the president stated that the sector would remain closed until proper guidelines were put in place on the sector.
