Speaking to the press at Harambee House in Nairobi, Interior Cabinet Secretary Dr. Fred Matiang'i, who is chairing the National Funeral Steering Committee made a statement to the public about the preparation of the late President Mwai Kibaki's funeral.

Former President Mwai Kibaki will be laid to rest in Othaya, Nyeri County, on Saturday, April 30.

According to the Funeral Steering Committee, which is led by Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang'i, Kibaki's body will lie in State in the National Assembly from Monday, April 25 to Wednesday, April 27.
Kibaki's funeral will be held at Nairobi's Nyayo National Stadium on Friday, April 29, according to Matiang'i.

Members of the Diplomatic Community who wish to visit the family can do so at the Nyari house in Nairobi's Kitsuru neighborhood, according to the Interior CS.

"Those in Nairobi who would like to visit the family can go to the late President Kibaki’s office in Nyari. A facility in the Othaya CDF office will be set up for leaders and members of the public to visit and pay their respect," CS Matiang'i stated.

By Tuesday, April 26, condolence books will be available in all 47 counties. On April 29, 2022, a state funeral will be held at Nyayo stadium.

"We have finalized the preliminary plans for the State Funeral of the late Former President Mwai Kibaki," the Interior CS stated.

President Uhuru Kenyatta earlier on issued four declarations that must be followed before he is laid to rest.

Uhuru declared a period of national mourning, with flags flying at half-mast until President Mwai Kibaki is buried, in a statement issued at State House in Nairobi on Friday, April 22.

He stated that in memory of Mwai Kibaki, the country will observe a period of national mourning from today until the day of his interment at sunset.
