The officer assigned to the Olkalou station in Nyandarua County was apprehended when he was discovered with the phone he stole from a woman at a popular bar around midnight.

The victim reported her phone was taken near an entertainment joint by a man who identified himself as an officer, according to OB number 02/04/04/2022.

The constable is alleged to have requested her to accompany him to the police station, but she was forced to report the incident to the nearby police station after he vanished into the darkness.

"One gentleman, posing as a police officer, took her phone, an Oppo A15, from her grip and demanded that she accompany him to the station. She pursued him, but as they neared the station, he vanished," partially read the report.

While on patrol, the suspect was approached by a coworker who was selling a phone at a bus stop in town. When he noticed the mark, he immediately contacted the case's investigating officer, Erick Kinoti.

The cop was arrested and taken to the police station by the two policemen. They later invited the complainant to come back to the station and identify if the phone that had been recovered was hers.

"The aforementioned cell phone, valued at Ksh20, 000, was retrieved after a swift search. Later, the complainant was contacted, and she positively identified the officer as well as her cellphone," in part, the police statement was read.

The offender has been apprehended and will face theft charges. The cop was later found to have been under the influence when he committed the crime.

The case has been taken up by officers from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), who have initiated an investigation. The phone that was recovered has yet to be returned to its owner since it will be used as an exhibit.
