The parliament had previously summoned the two Cabinet Secretaries for Energy and Petroleum, regarding the dramatic rise in fuel prices after fuel subsidies were suddenly stopped. The summons followed a bequest from Samson Cherargei, Nandi Senator for, a statement behind the move. Senate Speaker Kenneth Lusaka also included (Epra) the Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority to appear before the Senate to account for the decision to stop fuel subsidies. This decision concerns lawmakers as it induces adverse effects on living costs and enhances price pressures such as price hikes.

The Cabinet Secretary for Petroleum, John Munyes requested the Senate to postpone the meeting, claiming he would be involved in international travel at the time. The fuel discussion has raised considerable concern and outrage from Kenyan citizens.
