This comes after a Nairobi Court dismissed the Office of the Director of Public Prosecution's request to keep them in custody for another five days.

The DPP filed a new motion on Thursday morning, asking for five additional days to keep the 16 suspects in custody, including the assault mastermind Zachariah Nyaore Obadiah, so he could review the file and decide whether or not to charge them.

The 16 objected to the DPP's request to keep them for extra days during the application, stating that the first 15 days were adequate for the investigation.

The prosecution has been given 15 days to complete its investigation by the court.

The suspects, who were arraigned in two separate courts, will be held in custody until Monday, March 28, when the  ruling is scheduled to be  issued

Meanwhile, Zachary Obadiah Nyaora, the main suspect in the same sexual assault case, will be held in jail for two more working days to allow police to complete their investigations.

The prosecution requested five additional days, but the court only granted two.

The prosecution claims that the main suspect, who has been in detention for the past ten days, is a flight risk because he was apprehended at the Isebania border while attempting to cross into Tanzania.

On Monday, they will appear in court.
