BEAUTIFUL! Watch Video of Ex Toronto Fire Fighter Darrick Warming Hearts as Elephants Hugs Him

A video of former Toronto firefighter Darrick Thomson uniting with elephants after being away for 14 months has been warming the hearts of netizens across all social media platforms.

From the viral video seen by this publication a herd of mighty elephants can be seen rushing, trumpeting down a river, seemingly charging towards him as he is seen standing in the middle of the flowing Mae Taeng River.

The elephants become gentle and delighted towards their caregiver Darrick as they splish-splash their way toward the him as he beckons them with loud calls, hands cupped around his mouth.

As the happy elephants approach Mr. Thomson, they surround the him seemingly in an embrace, ears flapping and trunks raised.

Darrick had been away in Cambodia for ten months attending to an elephant that was rescued from Pakistan. Additionally, he took some 4 months while attending to his ailing father by then.

He later returned in Thailand on December 5th 2021 to meet his park friends.

One elephant in particular, called Khamla, who is believed to be the youngest of a family of 19, greeted Thomson with extreme enthusiasm. Khamla was four when she was rescued in 2015.

“I’ve grown up with her here since that time. And we have a very close special bond,” he said.

Thomson can be heard shouting Khamla’s name in the video. “The whole family treats me as their own,” he said.

Thomson is a former firefighter in Toronto who has now dedicated his life in rescuing and taking care of elephants at a sanctuary in Northern Thailand.

In the Northern Thailand Sanctuary Darrick has rescued about 109 elephants. He describes the rescue facility as a “space for them to live and abide forever,” noting that it allows the elephants to rehabilitate and bond as friends and family.
