The two were killed in the Sarira area of the vast forest, and guns were discovered on them. Kenyan army troops claim that they were part of a team of four, with two others escaping. Lamu County Commissioner Irungu Macharia stated that the search for the other fugitives is still ongoing.

The operation in the area has been on for several years as Kenya attempts to remove terrorists and their remnants from the region.

Two other suspects were killed in the Baure area two weeks ago. On March 11, the terrorist gang killed five workers at a construction site in the Bodhei area and set fire on two lorries used in the construction of the Lapset project.

These terrorists have been attacking Kenyan troops in a series of attacks, killing and injuring others. Non-locals are believed to be the targets of the attack, and the government has blamed the latest attacks on ethnic profiling linked to political inclinations around elections, a looming voter registration drive, and land disputes. The area is near the Kenya-Somalia border, which terrorists have previously attacked.

To combat terrorism, the Kenyan government and DRC have agreed to put one suspected criminal on trial, Salim Rashid Mohammed alias Chotara who court documents have identified as a leader of the ISIS group. He has been linked to several terrorism incidents, including the murder of a Congolese soldier.

On the same matter, the US government is offering a 570M bounty on anyone with information that could lead them to pin down and arrest an al-Shabaab leader, Jehad Mostafa, who is on the FBI’s most-wanted list for his involvement in several terrorist operations in different countries.
