Four gunmen were killed in a shootout with policemen in Turkana County. According to the police, the men were members of a gang that attacked Lokwar village on Monday in an attempt to steal animals.

A response team encountered some of them fleeing on a motorcycle, killed four of them, and discovered an AK47 rifle loaded with seven bullets on them.

The motorcycle was also found. This occurred after the gang spotted the police vehicle and opened fire, prompting the reaction.

In the Monday midday incident, two others escaped. They had earlier engaged villagers in a gunfight, according to police.

According to police, gunmen are roaming the area with the intent of stealing animals, and operations to tame them have been stepped up.

The bodies were taken to a nearby mortuary.

On July 31, in Napeitom, eight people were burned to death and a minor was kidnapped by suspected Pokot bandits. The incident occurred in the Turkana East district of Napeitom. The suspects were from Tiaty in Baringo County.

According to Area Chief Kaptan Ekiru, a minor was abducted by suspected rustlers who set fire to their homes.

“The suspected cattle rustlers from Tiaty in Baringo County raided our village in Kapedo/Napeitom ward in Turkana on Sunday night and burnt eight people in their homesteads,” the area chief stated.

He claimed that four children and four women were among those who were burned to death. The rustles are currently attacking the village.
